Ventilation
Attic Ventilation
Ventilation is crucial to the life and effectiveness of every roofing system. Heat and condensation can cripple R-values and encourage hidden decay in the building structure. Compassion Roofing will create a system that performs where you see it, and where you can’t.
Types of damage that can result include:
- Premature aging of your roofing system (“fried” shingles)
- Warping, cracking, or breaking down of wood framing
- Damage to siding, exterior or interior paint, and wallpaper
- Higher energy costs
A properly ventilated attic can help reduce the load on your air conditioner by moving the superheated air out of your attic before it builds up and causes damage. In the winter, various household appliances, bathtubs, showers, and cooking vapors can contribute to excess moisture build-up. Improperly ventilated attics will allow this moisture to collect and cling to the underside of the roof. There, it will condense and fall, soaking the attic insulation and reducing its efficiency
Additional structural damage can include:
- Roof deck warping and rotting of the wood frame
- Mildew growth
- Buckling of shingles and felt
Proper Attic Ventilation
Proper attic ventilation systems allow a continuous flow of outside air through the attic, protecting the efficiency of the insulation and helping to lower temperatures in the living space.
It consists of a balance between air intake (at your eaves or soffits) and air exhaust (at or near top roof ridge).
The FHA (Federal Housing Administration) recommends a minimum of at least 1 square foot of attic ventilation (both intake and exhaust) for every 300 square feet of attic space. For example, if your attic is 900 square feet, you need a total of 3 square feet of ventilation. This amount is generally divided equally between intake and exhaust ventilation (i.e., One and a half feet of each), to insure proper air flow through the attic.

From start to finish Compassion Roofing did a great job on our house. My wife and I were very pleased with the level of service and communication that was provided. Appointments were kept on time, every time. A 30 year GAF-Elk Camelot roof was installed in one day and it has great curb appeal. We were happy to see that the workers were skilled roofers who took pride in there work.
Compassion Roofing truly is a company that covered our roof with compassion. Thanks for all your hard work and professionalism.

I had a new roof installed a couple of weeks ago and wanted to let you know that I am very happy with all that transpired from the time I met with your team. The sales representatives inspected my roof, per my request, and advised me that there was wind and hail damage. They called my insurance company and reported the claim. In addition, they came out and met with two different adjusters to see about getting my roof replaced. Within 5 days the installation of a new roof was completed. What service! When I came home from work, I would not have known the roofing crew had even entered the property if the roof hadn’t been a different color. There was not a trace of any debris, nor was there a broken shrub or plant in the yard. Your representatives certainly compliment your company and uphold the company name – Compassion. From the start they were very compassionate and helpful. I will certainly recommend Compassion Roofing to friends, relatives, neighbors and anyone asking for a trustworthy roofing contractor. Thank you for all you have done to make this roof replacement go smoothly and quickly. You are great and will go a long way in this business.
Sincerely,
